Thanks for everyones help particularly Steve, Tom [and Jason from KDAA], only caught 3 barbel but had a great time anyway. I will not leave it so long next time.

Had a day on the lower yesterday, water temp 7.4 and NSL with a tinge of colour

Both rod tops knocking all day....

....only 1 take though for a small "splasher" Barbel that ensured that I'd got Barbel in each month of the season

popped to the upper "above" Shrewsbury tonight for a quick session.

No Barbel, but had four nice Chub 4,10 4,02 3,08 and 2ish in a few hours fishing.

Cheese paste did the business.........

Very clear, only started getting bites as darkness fell.

Anyone fish it?

I know the bit where it joins the Severn is a known area, but I crossed what I think was the Salwarp at Droitwich.

I was on my wat to the M5 via kiddy, and crossed over a small stream, which looked ideal for Chub.

Just interested as to who might control the river here?

Also, while Google earthing it, I noticed a good sized lake that seems to be called "Great Pool", not too far away.
Anyone know anything about it?

Des Taylors column in Angling Times this week States that.......

"The other Day I was fishing near Bewdley when I reeled in my lobworm hookbait to find a massive red signal crayfish attached to it.
It was a whopper, big enough to fill a plate!
Now, is this the start of a big Perch, big Barbel and big Chub era for us Severn anglers like that witnessed by other anglers fishing rivers where these creatures are present?
For a few years now the likes of Dowles...

Did a quick 3hour session last night on my syndicate water above Shrewsbury.

Didn't actually land anything, but lost 3

Lost a couple of Chub, one to a hook pull and another in a snag, and pulled out of a Barbel after a few seconds.

At least there was some action, things are looking up for the weekend.

Anyone got any experience of KDAA waters at Bewdley, I am having a quick visit in 2 weeks time [first 4 day pass in 15 years], not been there for very many years. Already bought a 1 week ticket . A few pointers to swims would be great as I dont have much time for scouting. Particularly interested in the dowles bit by the old bridge posts in the river as this looked good many years ago but never got chance to fish it. Any help much appreciated. Went up to Chirk at the weekend and passed both.

They do look fishable, but not sure which bits are possible to fish.

Another river I've had a look at in the past is the river Perry above Shrewsbury.

OK folks - so time wears on towards the end of the season time for a gentle discussion on barbel migraiton

- do you think the barbel in the Lower will have started their annual move upstream towards the spawning grounds at Diglis and Powick and therefore that we'd be better off fishing in the Upton to Worcester bit rather than the Tewkesbury to Upton bit over the next six weeks?
- do you subscribe to the general migration theory at all?
- or ???

I recently made a few 'special' floodwater feeders for a mate of mine to cope with the bigger than average Severn flood. This is the 'small' one weighing in at around 16oz. Takes around 1/2 kilo groundbait a go. Have found using 14lb test curve rod to be just about ok or a 'good' uptide rod.

I have a question I would like to ask you in all your wisdom.
After landing such a fine (by my standards) Roach a few weeks ago, I was wondering your opinion on whether you think that a moving bait is better for 'bigger' Roach or static. I have known both methods to produce big fish.
I know you much prefer a stick and pin and I would possibly sit your side of the fence on that one if Roaching, but just wondered if you think moving or static. I feel that a...

Does anybody do much fishing for lower Severn roach, and in particular the more specimen (pound plus) size ?

Any thoughts, ideas, areas ? In my (younger) club match days, the Upton area used to be good roach fishing, with always the outside chance of a good 'un. Cheers, Kev.

Well, can the lower Severn produce a barbel to beat Howard Maddock,s 16-3 before the shut down ? Last season things seemed very good, with some 15,s coming out, with the biggest to Nick super 7, I believe, at 16 exactly (If i remember correctly.) However, to my knowledge, nobody has got close this season (although I,d love to be proved wrong !)

Is the Severn destined to be always the bridesmaid, and never the bride ?

Never done any good with hemp and/or tares for Roach.

Why?

I catch well on maggot, but when I've tried the H&T I fail miserably.

What sort of conditions do you fish the H&T?
Low clear or up and coloured?

HELP!!!!
I know it has a habit of throwing up a better stamp of fish.
